A Scouting we will go..

First off I finally uploaded the pictures from painting!! Check them out.

This weekend started off with Brandon going bowling with one of his friends John. They had pizza and pop and bowled until 9pm. From what I hear Brandon was showing off his bowling league skills and loved having the bumpers up which he normally does not have.

Saturday morning Danith ran another 5K, this one in downtown Minneapolis. She said she did not do well but just running it is accomplishment enough. Saturday was also Brandon’s bowling league. So he got to bowl again and this time scored a 26. Bowling is a pretty tough sport for kids his age as just throwing the ball is hard enough and on top of that they must throw it straight and hard enough to hit some pins.

That night Brandon had his first sleep over at a friends house, Hunter. It sounds like he had a great time and still got some sleep too. That night Danith and I enjoyed having just a single kid who goes to sleep at 8pm. We had a bonfire and enjoyed a cool beverage or two watching the wood crackle and spark.

Sunday we met up with Hunter’s family at an apple orchard and picked a few apples and enjoyed a moderate 60 degree day.

Monday Brandon had his first Tiger scout pack meeting. He enjoyed the silly songs and awards given. I will upload a picture of him in his uniform later (hopefully). He is really excited about the fun stuff he will get to do and the Polar camp in January.

Historical Pictures

Not much of an update but I ran across a website the other day, the Minnesota Historical Society. This website has a lot of historical articles and photos from the MN area.

I spent a lot of time looking at the pictures of places I lived to see the old buildings and people. I was amazed at home many times Rochester, MN has seen devistation. In the 1890s there was a huge tornado that flattened most of downtown. In 1908 there was a huge flood, followed by another one in the 40s.

Here are a few sample pictures. Mayo High school in 1972. Mostly the same as when I went there, now it looks complete different.

The Rochester airport in 1940. Who knew Rochester had an airport so early on.. If you look close you may be able to see the land my parents built the house I grew up in.

Stewartville in 1972. Many places I can recognize from the map.

Mankato State College in 1965. I do not recognize where this is. It is not the old college down the hill but I can not pick out any buildings that I recognize, maybe someone else can.

That is all for now. Rick
