Summer is here
First off sorry for the delay between posts; Two weeks since I have written already! So in other news Brandon graduated from Kindergarten on the 5th. All the kids had hand made mortar boards and were each given a diploma after singing a few songs. His summer vacation has arrived.
I will touch on what we have been up to and you can read the details after the break.
- Danith and her sister ran a 5K marathon we are all proud of her, 3 more to go this summer.
- Strawberry Fest came and went in Cottage Grove, we watched the long parade and went to the carnival
- Walking with the dinosaurs was awesome
- The Star Wars exhibit at the Science Museum was cool but too small
- Our patio starts construction this Thursday and I am putting in drain tiles tomorrow
5K Marathon. This was actually her second 5K but the first one she trained for and wanted to run. The boys and I raced to the finish line and barely were able to catch them crossing the finish line. We are proud of her commitment. She is also planning on running two in July and one other one towards the end of summer. I will be running with her in July as well. Wish me luck, I will need it!
Strawberry Fest. This was the very first “Strawberry Fest” that they actually had Strawberries ready. Normally they are not yet ripe, but this was an exceptional year. Strawberry fest is the standard summer carnival. They had a parade in the morning followed by rides and food in the afternoon and into the evening.
The parade was 2 hours long and on a new route so we did not know what to expect. We foolishly picked the end of the route not knowing that there would be gaps between floats almost 5 minutes long. The kids still had fun and got a large load of candy. Their highlight was the Tank, ours was probably an optometrists who made sure anyone wearing glasses got a special coupon. Of course we got some.
The rides are typical carny rides. Not something that I would want to ride too many times, but the smaller rides Aiden could ride. He loved the cars although I was afraid he would try to get out when the ride got too long. Thankfully he waited them all out.
Walking with the Dinosaurs. No pictures of this one sadly. This was a live performance in real scale of what it would be like to travel back in time and see some dinosaurs in action. The smaller dinosaurs were people in costumes and the larger dinos were remote controlled machines. Each dino was very realistic and it was very impressive to see their size. They put on a nice show, some fights and a really funny display between a mother t-rex, baby t-rex and a triceratops. I hightly recommend this show to anyone interested in dinosaurs.
Science Museum. The science museum had a Star Wars exhibit that looked very interesting. They brought in some real props from the movies along with back stories about them. There were some real characters dressed up and walking through the museum and we were able to get a picture with Darth Vader and Princess Leia. We got two pictures with them trying to get Aiden to look at the camera, but he started looking at Darth and then to Leia.
The exhibits were very cool, but I felt there should have been more things to see. I hoped to see Hans in carbonite and Danith wanted to see Jabba, but neither was there. It was also very crowded, but being opening weekend I should have expected to see that. Fun but probably a 3 stars from me.
While there we played some mini golf, although by the looks of it I napped as well. 🙂
